Competency Models: Design, Development and Implementation

Competency modelling defines the set of skills, knowledge and behavior needed to perform effectively in jobs. To design Competency Models, it is important to first establish the business goals of the organization. Next, Job Descriptions related to the business goals, including duties and tasks within them are identified and analyzed to extract areas of required competence using methods such as surveys, interviews, and focus groups. These competencies are verified by expert workers including line supervisors and refined as “core competence”, “technical competence”, “people competence”, and “administrative competence” to produce an operational framework that translates into Job Requirement which may be used to implement the selection, recruitment, appraisal, training and development of employees.
