Lighting III: Lamp Families: Incandescent and Low-Pressure Discharge

This curriculum explains the essential features of incandescent (including halogen) and low-pressure discharge lamps, especially fluorescent. Learners will be familiar with the advantages and disadvantages, as well s the proper applications of each lamp family. The course covers fluorescent lamps and gives trainees a chance also to investigate the ballast factor and recognise how ballasts enhance energy efficiency. Certain lamps can also produce an effect known as “low power factor”. The course will briefly demonstrate this aspect and show how it can impact the energy bill.
